After 2 attempts to run the event we finally got together for the second of 3 events in the British Tour series. Saturday morning gave us perfect knee to waist high clean logging waves with enough power to get going, after high tide the swell slowly disappeared and Sunday we awoke to ankle snappers but just about surfable!
I sadly lost by 0.3 in the quarter finals on the Saturday afternoon in the dying swell then in the semi finals on Sunday but a great event all round and some amazing surfing from the loggers!
Massive congratulations to Mike Lay for taking the British title with 2 wins from 2 in both the open and single fin categories (which are basically the same thing when the surf is below waist high!). He and Elliot Dudley (who finished second in both categories at the event and overall) were standouts yet again managing to flow through the fat sections and maximise every wave. Sam Bleakley continued his brilliant run winning the masters and placing in all 3 finals of categories he entered!
Big thanks to Surfed Out for providing me with a great board in the 84 litre Cherrypicker from Skindog surfboards in Thunderbolt Technology, quite simply a nose riders dream board!
